You may wonder why the Identity Australia team is talking about the current discusion in the public domain on same-sex marriage. The answer is simple. The support group called PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is both a customer of our customised lanyards and includes a mother from our IDA team. As Narelle Phipps quoted for the Australian Womens Weekly in 2010: "When my late husband and I found out our son is gay ... I knew that the most important thing was for us to stay together as a family." PFLAG's motto is "Keeping Families Together"; it was a wonderful help and support.
Our political parties are struggling with allowing their members a conscience vote on the bill when it comes before the Federal House of Representatives later this year.
The House of Representatives Committees published an online survey where 276,437 Australians participated (review the results here). If you would like to have your say contact your local member.
An issue such as this can fly under the radar for much of the time. However when someone you love and care for is gay, suddenly you have a different perspective and understanding of the platform on which the debate is centred. It becomes a deeply personal and important matter. It becomes more than a matter of the heart' affecting - as it can - your child's way of life. A gay son is unable to get married in Australia because of the way he was born. His heterosexual sister is married and indeed takes that right for granted. Same-sex marriage is a basic human right. Equal rights is something we take for granted in Australia, until you enter this area and realise that the human rights here are not equal.
The Roy Morgan poll during 2009 to 2011 has shown 60 to 70 percent of Australians are in favour of legalising same sex marriage.
We wish the House of Reps all the best in legislating on such a 'matter of the heart'.

Design Your Own Lanyard HERE
Nick Leeder, the MD of Google posed a very interesting question about Retailing in Australia and the World. He asked "When will the 'High Street' Retailers realise that they are really just warehouses and that perhaps we never really liked walking around Sydney with loads of bags of shopping!"
That made me think about what do we offer our clients at Identity Australia. We don't ask our customers to walk around with bags of shopping. ... but we do expect them to only want to shop when we are physically in the office. How inconvenient! What if you could buy your lanyards, ID card printers, card holders, promotional items and identification accessories WHENEVER YOU WANT!... Well that's our goal!
We have been working on this goal with our new online shopping cart we called our Identity Australia e$tore. The good news is that it is now LIVE and you can shop 24/7/365!
But Nick also talked about how to develop and improve software, applications and design. He had one very strong message here. Put simply, don't operate like the old days. ... don't commission someone to do a job, ask people to bring jobs to you and then see which ones you can use.
So my idea is to open up the development/design of our e$tore and online cart to our customers. Tell us what you like and what doesn't work for you. We in turn will ask our developers to implement the ideas that will work for us all.
We all want to do our bit to help save Aussie jobs. Identity Australia is an Australian owned and staffed company that has been trading in Australia for over 15 years. Our staff are probably just like you, busy at work every day, and doing their best to support our customers and meet their needs.
Our motto is a simple one ...
Smile, focus, and put the customer in reliable hands when they phone in. Take over the customers' needs.

Our product range of Lanyards, Photo ID Card Holders and Photo ID Printers is very extensive so training is a continuous challenge even for our long term staff.
Our staff are busy with our new online store for lanyards and accessories as we have an Easter Promotion during March and April. Why not logon or signup and ask our staff to help you surf our online store and site - chocolate is optional!!
We all know what it is like to be on the receiving end of good 'old fashioned' customer service. We have made it our mission to find out what our customers expect from a professional service such as ours. It has been hard work but we believe we understand it is all about keeping the customer in the loop - a simple phone call with relevant information will inform and satisfy the customer on so many levels. We have made this our point of differentiation at Identity Australia so why not ring us for a chat and experience that old fashioned service again! We will see what we can do for you to meet your personal or staff ID and security needs today. Mention our price guarantee to also meet your budget needs.

Narelle Phipps (Owner of Identity Australia) with her NEW grandson Digory Arthur Keith
The team here at Identity Australia would like to welcome the new baby boy Digory to the IDA family... BIG congratulations to Narelle Phipps (Owner of Identity Australia) for being blessed with another grandchild. A big congratulations also to Digory's parents Katherine and Stephen, his sister Rowan, step sister Lilly and last but not least Neil the proud Uncle.
Digory Arthur Keith was born on Thursday 8th March 2012 tipping the scales at 3.826kgs (8 pounds and 3 ounces) and 56cms long.
Digory Arthur Keith also carries a great honour with him into Identity Australia. He has been named after our founder Keith Phipps - Digory's grandfather. Keith was taken from Identity Australia by an untimely death in 2007 after a short illness. We are sure Keith would approve of this newest addition to the Identity Australia family.
Digory is one happy and healthy boy who is very lucky to be part of such a loving family.

Rowan already has a hand in helping Mummy and Daddy see to the needs of her new little brother. Little sisters can come in handy when you are too small to pull their hair!
Congratulations again to Narelle, Katherine, Stephen, little sister Rowan, step sister Lilly and Uncle Neil.

When did life become so fast and complicated? It seems even just trying to buy some cheap plastic vinyl flexible card holders needs a degree in physics and architecture! Why is this so? Let's just take a minute today to cut through to the important things to consider in your search for Event Badge Holders, Conference card holders or even Staff photo ID card holders.
Here are the simple steps:
1. Measure the dimensions of the card to be inserted into the flexible card holder.
i. Width = mm
ii. Height = mm
iii. Thickness = mm (of insert)
2. Is the ID card Landscape or Portrait?
3. Do you want an eco friendly card holder?
4. Do you want different coloured card holders so that you can easily distinguish 'groups' of people at your event eg VIP's vs Staff?
5. Is it just for 1 card or do you need a multi card holder?
Now comes the 'trick'. You will need to add a few mm's to your dimensions as otherwise it is just too hard to slip the photo ID or Event Pass into the holder. Also, don't forget to allow enough room for the thickness of the card insert.
So, no more broken nails or wasted time in stuffing tight fitting cards into their holders. Look at our complete range online or buy direct from our Online store www.identityaustralia.com.au
Enjoy your conference!

Who says you can’t make lanyards out of soft drink bottles? The latest rage in lanyards has to do with environmentally friendly materials – and YES, the humble recycled coke® plastic bottle may now be hanging around your neck! PET plastics are now crumbled and reprocessed into a fibre which is woven into a lanyard material.
When Identity Australia first started selling lanyards just on 20 years ago, we were constrained by the fabrics and attachments of the day. After all, who would have wanted to hang a heavy ‘mobile phone’ - 1996 vintage - around their neck? Today life is very different.
Environmentally friendly lanyards have become fashionable. Lanyards such as:
- Bamboo fibre - biodegradable lanyards
- PET (those recycled coke® bottles!) lanyards
- Polyester containing ‘virgin’ fibre plus ‘recycled’ content lanyards
- PVC lanyards
- Sustainable fibre options (renewable resources) lanyards
The different types of standard lanyards readily available include;
- Polyester – soft or coarse woven, flat tube or flat strip. Reinforced. Reflective.
- Nylon – a stylish ‘sheen’
- Satin ribbon
Customised lanyards are designed by us according to a brief from our customer. They will typically include a company logo, company approved PMS colours, a slogan or theme and an attachment suitable for the purpose. For a conference it will be a card holder attachment, but for a promotional item it may be for a USB hub complete with the customer’s catalogue and price list! The variations are vast and we help our customers decide which lanyard idea will support their purpose with the most impact. Check out our Design-A-Lanyard Page.
With increasing customer awareness, lanyards have had to morph into an ‘OH&S’ compliant item with the addition of a safety breakaway inserted into the fabric. The functionality has also been increased by the use of detachable buckles – allowing the lanyard to remain around the neck while the end section can be detached for ease of use, e.g. for keys.
Lanyards are now incorporated with a retractable mini reel to allow items such as access cards to be extended from the body.
So, when you next need a lanyard for a job, think outside the square and imagine where that lanyard will end up after its original purpose – it might just be an advertising opportunity for your client for the next 10 years!
I was recently relaxing down the South Coast. Sun, surf, kids playing and lots of people. It was very enjoyable until the Police turned up at the skate park. A 10 year old boy had gone missing. It is a feeling of panic that you never want to experience firsthand. It made me think that we should use photo ID cards to help protect our kids all year round. Normally they would have their bus pass or school photo ID with them, but not when they are on holidays!
Photo ID cards can be produced for your kids simply by sending a photo and contact details to Identity Australia’s ID Card Bureau via email. Why not produce a small quantity of photo ID cards for your kids to keep on them for next holidays? You can even have self adhesive photo ID cards made with the same details – and stick them to the back of their mobile phone, scooter deck, skateboard and bike frame. This small initiative may be a simple way to keep your kids identifiable next holidays
